Documenting a Day with Microsoft Apps
Many of us may need to utilize Microsoft applications for work or even for some personal activities. The most common Microsoft applications to use are Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Word is used for textual based work, Excel for data focused work, and PowerPoint for presentations. You may already be familiar with these applications; however, you must not understate the importance of learning these apps. Excel alone is used in 81% of businesses (excel4business, n.d.).
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word is used for any task that requires a lot of text. The application can format text in many ways, such as size, font, bolding, highlighting, and underlining. In everyday use, you may use Word to write a journal, make a calendar, create stationary, make postcards, or even create invitations to events (Post, 2024). Word is used in business to make journals, write notes, or even write contracts. Word’s disadvantage is in visual display. Word is not suitable when you need to share many visuals, or work with data.

Microsoft Excel
Excel is the application you want to use for any task that requires clear organization of data. With excel you can input data, label it, sort it, create functions, and more. Another great feature of Excel is creating charts and graphs from the data you have entered. This makes displaying the information to colleagues easy. A common use for Excel may be creating a budget or storing sales data. Excel’s disadvantage is that it is not suitable for long texts. You may still add text to your Excel worksheet, however, that task is best left for Word.

Microsoft PowerPoint
PowerPoint is a tool for creating presentation material. These presentations often contain short bullets or information, graphics, and animations. PowerPoint’s strength is in its ability to visually display information quickly to an audience. Being able to add animation effects to your presentation through PowerPoint adds intrigue for the audience. The weakness of PowerPoint is that it is not suitable for longer text. PowerPoint is best used in meeting settings to show your main points to an audience.
What app is best to document a day?
In documenting my day, I consider Word to be the best application for the task. Similar to a diary, describing my day is best presented through longer journal entries, easily made through Word. Excel is perhaps the least useful for this activity, as you can only show the data related to your day within excel. PowerPoint was less suitable than Word in this task, because it is not the best tool for longer text entries.
Final Thoughts
Microsoft offers great tools for different use cases. Word is perfect for documents, Journals, and any text-based tasks. Excel is excellent for working with data and creating charts and graphs for better visualization. PowerPoint is perfect for presenting quick information to a group. All of these applications share some capabilities, but specialize in areas the others lack in.
